HEBBAL LAKE & PARK

Hebbal Lake is a natural lake and located in the northern Bangalore, along Bellary Road. Hebbal Lake is nearly 150 acre in area. Hebbal Lake is maintained by Sate Forest Department. This seasonal lake used to get filled during the monsoon and invariably go dry in the summer. It has a big variety of aquatic vegetation and a large number of birds live around it.

Hebbal Lake is well known for the park, the boating facility and for the bird watching opportunities. Hebbal Lake alone was home to over 70 species of water birds including 40 from the Himalayan and Central Asian regions. Due to increasing in water pollution, the variety has reduced but the numbers are fair enough to make a visit. Incidentally, it was one of the three lakes founded in 1537 by Kempe Gowda.

Hebbal used to be the end of the corporation limits of Bangalore City. One can still see the milestone between the Baptist hospital and checkpost. Bangalore has now grown quite a bit towards north, beyond these marks. The commencement of the Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) at Devanahalli in 2008 has ensured that Hebbal has become a very important location for the passengers flying out of Bangalore. All arterial roads and road networks leading to the BIAL intersect at Hebbal. Further, BIAL has its office on the National Highway (NH 7) exit of the Hebbal flyover in Gayathri Lake Front.

Hebbal hosts companies such as AstraZeneca, Integra Micro Software Services and MRO Tech. Embassy Kirslokar Business Park has changed this small semi-urban neighbourhood of Hebbal Kempapura into a sprawling modern office cum commercial hub. The Esteem Plaza and the Columbia Asia Medical Center managed by Dr. Nand Kumar is definitely one of the best high end secondary care hospitals in the north of Bangalore. With Godrej Properties developing the Woodsman Estate, residential development in the area has also been incubated. Along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) just after the Nagawara Lake (Lumbini Gardens), Embassy Manyata Business Park is one the largest technology and business parks in the city of Bangalore. Global brands like Philips Software and IBM have moved in. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has also built its corporate office opposite the Embassy Manyata Business Park.
