Shaswathi Museum

Shashwati Museum is an enchanting museum in N.M.K.R.V. College, Bangalore. Shashwati Museum is a brainchild of the late Dr. C.N. Mangala, former Principal of the college. Over 5000 display items echo thousands of different stories of the past, present and the future work of Indian women. Exhibited in various forms of art and craft are the aspirations and achievements of women.

Artifacts include tools women used for household chores, examples of women's art, handicrafts, ornaments, and means of infant care. Dioramas, grinding stones, wooden troughs, vessels, radios, typewriters, old gramophones, wooden cradles, objects handcrafted from plastic, paddy, fabric, crochet, jute, photographs, paintings, sculptures in copper, brass and stone make up this museum.

The founder-principal of NMKRV Degree College for Women in 1973, with her colleagues undertook a padayatra in Bengaluru and Mysuru collecting women-related artefacts. That is how Shashwati Women’s Museum was born.
