Apsarakonda Falls
Apsarakonda is a tourist village near Honnavar, Uttara Kannada and situated 8 km from the Honnavar bus stand. Apsarakonda means Pond of angels. This is named after a pond facing the Beach. The legend associated with the name of the waterfall is that it was the chosen place of the angels to take a bath and relax. Karnataka Tourism Department has beautified the place to increase its attraction and to make it easier for people to reach down to the waterfall.
There is Maha Ganapati and Ugra Narasimha temple, behind which you find Apsarakonda falls. There is a Pandava caves which is of historical significance. According to mythology Pandavas stayed during their Vanavasa. Apsarakonda is known for its unexplored beaches. The best time to visit the waterfall is during the monsoon season, i.e., from June to October. The volume of water flowing down the falls is at its highest at that time. Colonel Hill, Higund, Rama Tirtha, Kasarkod Beach and Basavaraja Durga are near by tourist attractions.
